Church Of Bishop Abram Ibn Zaraa The Syrian
  • This church was named after Bishop Abram Ibn Zaraa the Syrian, the 62nd Patriarch of the seat of St. Mark to immortalize the supernatural miracle of moving the Mokkatam mountain which took place during his reign.  He was the one who introduced the three day fast which the church held at the time of the miracle.  This fast has been observed ever since and has been added to the Christmas fast, thus making the fast a total of 43 days instead of 40 days only.  He also introduced the fast of Jonah to the church fasts due to the great tribulation that took place in Egypt during that time (similar to the fast of Jonah during the tribulation of the people of Nineveh).  He also resisted the habit of owning concubines, which was widespread at the time.
  • This place came to be known as it is now during the operation of discovering caves present in the area in 1992.  It was made into a church after a bit of enlargement and reshaping.
  • The first Holy Mass was held in this church in 1993.
  • This church is also used for spiritual and prayer meetings.

  • It is considered the smallest church in the monastery.

  • "How good and pleasant it is when brother live together in unity!" (Psalm 133:1)
